Ben Harper & Other Celebrities Fete Jonah Hill’s ‘90s Skate Flick

Del the Funky Homosapien and others screen 'Mid90s'
On October 18, skaters, actors, and influencers made their way out to a special outdoor screening of Mid90s. Written and directed by Jonah Hill, the film follows Stevie, a thirteen-year-old in 90s-era LA who spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a group of new friends that he meets at a Motor Avenue skate shop.
At the screening, locals, hip-hop icons, and skater kids filled the West LA Courthouse main plaza (where much of the film was actually shot). The space was transformed into a 90’s skate scene complete with skater boys and girls wearing throwback clothes like JNCO jeans, oversized skate shirts, clunky sneakers, and peaked beanies while nailing tricks off railings, ramps, and zooming by guests.
Mid90s is about the universal longing of a teenage kid who just wants to fit in.
It's about a group of friends in Los Angeles in, yes, the middle of the '90s. Skateboarding is at the center of their universe. And Hill is determined to treat the subject with respect.
Viewers got to see the watch the film in the transformed plaza and even enjoy their favorite 90’s comfort foods, like slushies and burritos.
Guests (including G-Eazy, Travis Scott, James Franco, Rashida Jones, Ben Harper, and Lil Dickey) stayed to chill, eat, and socialize to DJ-spun hip-hop, punk, and alternative beats.
