Bad Girl Gone Good

Good Girl Gone Bad Gone Good

Rihanna is doing the damn thing. At her New York Fashion Week show in September, the artist celebrated all of womanhood, sending women of all shapes, sizes, and races down the runway.

“I wanted to include every woman. I wanted every woman on the stage with different energies, different races, body types, different stages in their womanhood, culture,” she tells Elle magazine. The star even featured women who were visibly pregnant.

“I have a lot of respect for those women and those who choose to continue to work and get it done while being pregnant. I’m not the type to judge any women about any part of her womanhood, especially motherhood because that’s like the VIP of womanhood,” the star continues.

Rihanna’s not new to the notion of beauty for all. Rihanna launched her Savage X Fenty lingerie collection in May, selling out in less than 24 hours. In fall 2017, Rihanna launched her cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty, highlighting a wide range of foundation shades and products in an industry that has consistently overlooked people of color.

The trendsetter has also committed to gender equality as part of her humanitarian efforts. The singer was appointed a global ambassador to champion education in 2016 through a partnership of her Clara Lionel Foundation and The Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen.

In an industry that’s long promoted unrealistic beauty and size standards, the singer-turned-beauty-mogul-turned-fashion-designer has found a way to challenge the idea of what it means to be beautiful and sexy. “I can only hope to encourage confidence and strength. I want women to own their beauty.”
